Common questions
Does a veterinary clinic need its own license?
Yes, in both states. California requires every veterinary premises, including mobile units, to be registered with the Veterinary Medical Board (Bus. & Prof. Code 4853). Florida requires a premises permit, issued after an inspection, for every establishment where a veterinarian practices (Fla. Stat. 474.215).
Can my vet refuse to give me my pet's records?
In California you are entitled to a copy within five days of asking (Bus. & Prof. Code 4855). In Florida copies, including X-rays, must be furnished in a timely manner and may not be withheld because a bill is unpaid (Fla. Stat. 474.2165).
Why isn't my vet listed?
We list licensed premises, not individual veterinarians. House-call vets in Florida don't need a premises permit, and some chains register hospitals at a head-office address, which we leave out. Check the state's lookup by name.
Does a listing mean the hospital offers emergency care?
Only if its name says so, and even then call to confirm hours. Clinic types on this site come from the registered name, not from the state.
Why is there no phone number?
The state files don't include phone numbers. Use the form on a listing, or ask the hospital to claim its listing and add one. For an emergency, call a hospital directly.
